With young learners in mind worksheets can benefit immensely. In Farisa Zaki's article Top 10 Benefits of Using Worksheets for Kids it mentions how giving stickers can be a motivator for the student's confidence. Worksheets can give the opportunity of freedom in the way that some worksheets are as easy as a colouring page. I find that worksheets are a thing that can give children a quick transition between activities. Students with short attention spans are found to be able to excel on worksheets because they are short and to the point. In the article Are worksheets a waste of time? it points out that worksheets are only as good if it keeps the students engaged. Also it mentions that teachers should spend more time marking books; rather than spending so much time creating a worksheet. I would have to disagree with that statement because a worksheet can be beneficial in small doses. I don't mean have a worksheet during every class, but having them every once in awhile is a good change. They can be used as a quick formative or summative assignment.
When creating worksheets can take time, but when done correctly the feeling of accomplishment is big. Microsoft Word has a lot of features to help your worksheet look interesting, so the students look engaged. With just being able to change the layout and the size of margins can by the smallest detail, but change the appearance a lot. Colour and graphics can make or break it with the students. Even though you can't print off every worksheet in colour; by having the choice of showing the worksheet on the projector the students will see the bright colours. Worksheets are best when they are not over crowded, but still have all the information the students need!
